South By Southwest (SXSW), one of the largest music festivals in the U.S., is scheduled to kick off this week in Austin, Texas, and though primarily known for it's huge array of rock bands, the festival has a very cool sprinkle of Alternative/Soul chicas on its roster this year:
The UK's Noisettes.
Los Angeles' J*Davey
DC's YahZarah as Purple St. James
and Brooklyn's Maya Azucena
What's that? You can't get time off work for a week-long trip to Austin, Texas? Check the artists' myspace pages for tour info because one of 'em's surely scheduled to rock a city near you.

I'm not too familiar with the other artist but I kind of dig J*Davey
Viva la J*Davey. Yes, I don't know the others... but I know of her.
I've been living in Austin for 3 years and never got a chance to attend the sxsw but I know it's always packed with people.
I'm familar with J*Davey and the Noisettes. I think the Noisettes girl is fly as hell but I don't really do rock. J*Davey is smoother with more urban flavor. I would love to see them live.
Why isn't it a festival where we can see all of these women in one place at one time? With Jill Scott and Erykah and Chrisette Michelle and dudes like Martin Luther and Cody Chestnutt just all up under one roof. Like a black Woodstock! Because I wouldn't want to spend no major bucks for a big music festival that i will like only a few singers.
Maya is great live, as is YahZarah. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about J*Davey, but I do love their music anyway. And I hear a lot about the Noisette's but still haven't given them a listen. Maybe that's what i should do on this rainy day.

I want Black Woodstock. A modern day Wattstax, only on the east coast and on a nice spring day, with tons of major and indie artists just singing and being amazing.

I love shingai Shoniwa, not to many people now about her group the noisettes. Her live performances are so much better than the studio recordings and yes she is a beautiful zimbabwean woman. Thanks for featuring her.
shingai shoniwa and the band the noisettes are Very rock n' roll. she has a great voice and presence onstage and she has the best style...love what she is wearing and the hairdos...not long before somebody is going to imitate her style..
