Halle Berry and Angela Nissel get "Mixed Up"

Halle

Some of you hip hop fans may remember Angela Nissel as the co-founder of Okayplayer. She has since gone on to write the critically-acclaimed memoir, "The Broke Diaries," based on her hilarious adventures living below the 'broke line' and is currently a writer/consulting producer for the NBC dramedy, Scrubs.

Now Angela Nissel is teaming up with Halle Berry and HBO to develop "Mixed Up," a tentatively titled series based on The Broke Diaries and Angela's most recent novel, "Mixed: My Life in Black and White." The show will focus on a biracial woman and her two friends as they tackle racial and financial issues after college (Daily Variety).

We're not sure if Halle Berry will star or just produce but this project--if greenlit--may just be our Entourage or better yet, Sex in the City.

I think it's cool that Hallee tries to bring issues of mixed people to light.

I think that mixed people have issues, but I do NOT believe that they are no more prevelant than any other culturally ethnic issues.

In fact, I think they are celebrated more often than not. I'm not going to even DELVE into the light skin black skin issue. Fortunately, I never had to deal with that because I was always in the Middle with my complexion and had long hair.

That's my thought.

And as for Halle, I don't really think she is an effective spokesperson. I think she's got some personal issues NON color related that makes her a little baffy.

But that's just me.

I'm glad that Halle Berry and Angela Nissel are even tackling the issue. I'm mixed and I'm proud of my heritage but there are definitely some experiences I've had that other African Americans probably haven't. For so long mixed people have ONLY been identified as "black" even though your mama may be a white woman. Only identifying myself as "black" would be just as insane as just trying to identify as "white." I'm BOTH and it's about time America starts accepting that fact.

I've had black men want to date me because I'm mixed. I've had white family members disown my mom (though most love me and my siblings). I've experienced racism. I've experienced being praised for being lighter skinned. I've been through it all.

I am mixed and my issues are just as relevant as any other group of people, black, white, fat, disabled, whatever. So kudos to Halle and Angela for having the guts to talk about it!

If done justice, I think this show could be a pretty entertaining look into race relations. If it turns into a 'woe is me, I'm mixed' affair, viewers will most likely be turned off.

These days everyone wants to talk openly and honestly about their stuff. I say, 'Gone head then, lol.

I'm with that. The mixed girl in Cali sounds pretty upset, but that's just my take on it. I don't know what she has had to deal with, but I think that, as you said, race relations In GENERAL would be a good start to all of this.

If that's the case "Hell, woe is me because I'm a sister". That's not the story that I want people to get. I want people to know the why's and how's people stereotype ANYONE, and that includes people who are quote unquote mixed.

And don't let me get started anyway, because I don't look like an African. So we are all techincally mixed, let me tell it.

Remember the paper bag test? Stop being so dismissive of this issue. You suffer no more than others of our race. I bet you actually have it a little better as you are perceived smarter, based on being lighter complected.

I am looking forward to this project's success, praying that it up lifts us all as a people. Maybe then we will learn to pull together like other cultures, instead of the crab in the barrel syndrome we have suffered these last 200 years.

When you rise, so do I. When I rise, I reach down and lift up. Together we are stronger than steel. Right now it is still every man for himself and sabotage those still trying to make it.

Look at how far the latins have advanced, because they have quietly been promoting and pushing their own into bigger and better positions. They KNOW when one of them make it, he will not, NO MATTER WHAT, advance another race above his own. Blacks are the opposite. They live in fear that one will make it above them, so we all fail by fear.

Sorry for the rant. Latins don't worry about being mixed, only about insuring that they all make it.

We are our own worse enemies.

A comment on the term
of ‘Light Skin Black’ :D.

.

It is often a surprise for people
to learn that, in reality, there
is actually No Such Thing As a
"Light Skinned Black" person.

The term "Light Skinned Black"
is really nothing more than a
racist oxymoron that was created
by racial Supremacists in an
effort to forcibly deny those
Mixed-Race individuals, who
are of a Multi-Generational
Multiracially-Mixed (MGM-Mixed)
Lineage, the right to fully
embrace and to also received
public support in choosing to
acknowledge the truth regarding
their full ancestral heritage.

The people who have been slapped
with the false label and oxymoronic
misnomer of "Light Skinned Black"
person are simply Mixed-Race
individuals whose family have been
continually Mixed-Race throughout
their multiple generations.
