Cocoa Lounge Legends [#002]: Judy Pace

From The Cocoa Lounge

Cocoa Lounge Legend: Judy Pace
Judy Pace, trailblazing actress.

Judy Pace started her career by entering a beauty pageant and failing to win in a single category. A student at Los Angeles City College, Judy had hopes of earning a degree in sociology when a leg condition that she had suffered from as a child returned. She was hospitalized for months, during which time she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an actress.

Judy Pace in The Young LawyersPace found small roles in The Candy Web (1963), The Fortune Cookie (1966) and was a regular on the now classic tv hit, Peyton Place from 1968-1969. She would also co-star in the acclaimed, but short-lived series, The Young Lawyers. During the Black Action film explosion, Judy starred in the Ossie Davis-helmed Cotton Comes To Harlem (1970), Cool Breeze (1972) and The Slams (1973) (with Jim Brown ). She co-starred in the first-ever made-for-televsion film, Brian's Song (1971) as the on-screen wife of Billy Dee Williams.

Judy Pace's star rose quickly, but unfortunately, after 1973 she would be seen in very few films. She later married Baseball Hall of Famer Curt Flood, a marriage that lasted until his passing in 1997. Since then she has carried the torch for Flood, becoming a spokesperson for free agency in professional sports. Judy also co-founded The Kwanzaa Foundation with Star Trek legend Nichelle Nichols.

We'd love to see Judy Pace return to the screen in a major role to push the doors she opened for young black actresses in the 60's, for today's actresses now in their 60's. Woman Power Style!

These are great pictures. I remember when I was a small child in the 70's I used to see her as bit parts on sitcoms.

I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world.

I still do.

Thanks for the update on your mom, Julia.

For fans, Judy Pace just returned to the Los Angeles stage in "The Divorce" a play by Donald Welch of "The Bachelorette Party" fame. The all-star cast included Ananda Lewis, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Dawn Lewis and Tatyana Ali just to name a few. Not sure if this play will continue to run or travel across the country but it's definitely been making waves here in LA.

Judy Pace still looks fabulous! Whenever she's ready to sell her beauty secrets, she's gonna have to give me a call! :D

Judy Pace is "STILL" as beautiful and talented as she has always been. She currently is co-starring in my stage play, "The Divorce" along side Dawnn Lewis, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Freda Payne, Lynn Hamilton, Tatyana Ali & Ananda Lewis. After sellouts in LA, Miami, and Richmond, The Divorce will be coming to a town near you!

I had a huge crush on Judy Pace back in the early 70s, when I was just a 10-12-year-old white kid from Wisconsin. A beautiful woman who also conveyed strength and grace:) --

Judy Pace is an extraordinary person as well as a physically beautiful woman.
I knew her at LACC and used to visit her home and met her mother, father, one of her sisters and her niece. The entire family is very attractive and talented.
Judy has a very calm spirit.
Marvelous lady.

Hey there! Quick question that's entirely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My website looks weird when browsing from my apple iphone. I'm trying to find a theme
or plugin that might be able to correct this problem.
If you have any suggestions, please share. Cheers!
